AL STEPHANO & TRIO: MAMBO BONGO BASH

Latin music dominated hipper American dance floors, nightspots, and imaginations for decades. For better or worse, in the 50´s recordings on vinyl, everything "Goes Latin," from jazz to Broadway. The influence of Latin music may be universal,
but Latin rhythms have specific localities and history. The best Latin records recall Havana in its decadent heyday, or later, the New York dance scene sprung from Spanish Harlem. Cubans and Puerto Ricans rule Latin music, but even non-hispanic Europeans have made their impressions. The list is too long, the major players too many, for further comment on so broad a type of music. Suffice it to say that there will always be plenty of great Latin vinyl records. In this scenary I came across with some AL STEPHANO's recordings, with his trio and his orchestra.Unfortunately I did not find his biography, even tough Mr. Stephano has a long list of vinyl recordings. No big deal: what matters is the high quality of his music.

MINHA OPINIÃO: Fiquei intrigado com o fato de que, apesar de AL STEPHANO ter uma longa lista de discos gravados com seu trio e com sua orquestra, não encontrei sua biografia nos sites especializados. É pena não podermos saber um pouco mais de Stephano, um excelente músico e arranjador dos anos 50.
