This is the first album recorded by the Brazilian super-star SERGIO MENDES. Don´t be fooled by the ridiculous album cover: this is a GREAT ALBUM, where Mr. Mendes shows his enourmous artistry, supported by some great Brazilian Musicians. Sergio Mendes´ renditions of "Nica´s Dream" and "Satin Dolls" deserve to be included among the best versions of these masterpieces. Don´t miss it.

ALBUM COMMENT
The fab first album by Sergio Mendes -- very different than his later work! Sergio's more in a straight bossa mode here -- playing with a tight little combo that features saxophone and trombone next to his own firey work on piano -- tight and jazzy, and even with a few traces of US Latin grooves as well! The album's proof that Sergio was already at the top of his game in the early years -- and although released at the end of the 50s, the record's got a groove that would set the scene for countless bossa jazz albums to follow! Titles include the hard groovers "Oba-La-La" and "Outra Vez", plus versions of American jazz groovers like "Nica's Dream" and "On Green Dolphin Street" -- and the cuts "Tema Sem Palavras",
"Disa", "Diagonal", "Love For Sale", and "Satin Doll".

Não se deixe enganar pela "capa-kitsch" (na época, se dizia que era "cafona") nem pelo título, porque o conteúdo deste primeiro disco gravado por Sérgio Mendes NÃO É PRÁ DANÇAR. Duvido que
qualquer casal bom de "samba-no-pé", ou "salseiro" consiga se sair bem na parada. Esse disco aí é "aquele" a que Tom JObim se reporta na contra-capa do "Você ainda não ouviu nada" quando menciona o piano tocado com "sabor de jabuticaba colhida no pé". O "latin-groove" de Sérgio em " Nica´s Dream", "Satin Doll", "Love for Sale", "On green Dolphin Street" e "Disa" são de deixar qualquer
pianista cubano com água na boca. As reharmonizações de "Satin Doll" e "Nica´s Dream" são as melhores que já ouvi. As congas de Rubens Bassini são responsáveis pelo "latin-tinge", enquanto a
presença do violão de Durval Ferreira e do contrabaixo de Bebeto Castilho ancoram o "cool-samba-jazz" dos temas brasileiros. Bebeto também toca flauta e Edson Maciel trombone. Se você ainda não conhece este álbum vai "dançar", se não baixá-lo AGORA!
