MARIO BAUZA, PAQUITO D`RIVERA, JORGE DALTO: AFROCUBAN JAZZ

MARIO BAUZA, PAQUITO E JORGE DALTO
Meu querido amigo PAQUITO D´RIVERA dispensa apresentação, porque é um dos mais assíduos artistas deste blog. E vai continuar sendo, por muito tempo. Ainda tenho muita, muita coisa dele prá postar.
-------
MARIO BAUZÁ -
Mario Bauzá (April 28, 1911 in Havana, Cuba - July 11, 1993 in New York City) was one of the most influential figures in the development of Latin jazz or as he referred to it, Afro-Cuban
("Latin" Music, a term created in the 1960s to take Africa out of the music). After emigrating to New York at age 19, he reputedly learned to play the trumpet in two weeks and earned a spot as
a player in Chick Webb's orchestra. He also played on some recordings of Antonio Machín. But it was in Cab Calloway's band that Bauzá met fellow trumpet player Dizzy Gillespie. Gillespie and Bauzá worked together for several years. The fusion of Bauzá's Cuban musical heritage and Gillespie's advancements in bebop eventually culminated in the development of cubop, one of the first forms of latin jazz. Bauzá later worked with other notable artists
including Ella Fitzgerald, Don Redman and Cab Calloway, and eventually worked as the musical director of the Afro-Cubans in 1941, led by his brother-in-law Machito, a position he maintained until 1976. He led his own band in the 80s and early 90s.

JORGE DALTO
Jorge Dalto was born July 7, 1948, in Jorge Perez, Argentina. He studied piano in his home country and came to the United States in 1969. In 1973, he settled in New York, playing with Latin jazz groups such as Tito Puente's Latin Jazz Ensemble and the Machito band. Shortly afterward, he became a member of his fellow countryman Gato Barbieri's group, and got involved in the mid-1970's fusion movement, which mixed jazz and rock. His version of ''This Masquerade'' with the guitarist George Benson won a Grammy Award in 1976. Jorge Dalto died of cancer in 1987 in New York, aged 39 years old. He is survived by his wife, Adela, who is a singer, and two children.

MY OPPINION: Don´t miss this album. It´s amazing!
-----------
