Quando ouvi os primeiros "montunos" da obra-prima de Ivan Lins, "Começar de Novo" (The Island), pensei com meus botôes: se o álbum andar nesse passo essa menina vai botar muito marmanjo e suas "latin-bands" no bolso. Mas ao ouvir a segunda e as demais faixas, me dei conta de que, por coerência com a sua condição de "dance-band", Maria Williams não se definiu por tocar um determinado estilo.

Sultry Houston Singer/Songwriter Maria Williams is also known as Texas' only female to front and lead her OWN 15 Piece Swingin' Big Band. This CD (her 2nd) has garnered radio airplay from Alaska to Brazil, and from California to Boston. Rhythmic Remedy is a compilation and integration of her own original compositions infused with Jazz & Latin Rhythms, English translations of Latin classics, and, of course, Broadway Musicals and Big Band Jazz Standards. With a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Houston, she has been entertaining and performing as a professional singer for more than twenty years. Her dance band is in high demand along the Texas Gulf Coast. The fourth of five children, she was born in Mexico to a Spanish Mother, yet her Father, a retired U.S. Colonel in the Air Force, gave her dual citizenship, along with a love of both cultures' food, dance, and music...

MY OPINION
This is a very nice entertaining CD. Beautiful vocals and some really good band arrangements against Maria's Vocal abilities. Maria can make the transition from English to Spanish and back with emotion and energy. The CD is a blend of brazilian music, boleros, pop, and USA standards, with tight arrangements and a true big-band sound. Maria's vocals are seductive and the album is very satisfying and uplifting.

Toca vários estilos, adaptando-se com muita propriedade a todos eles, desde o contagiante "latin-groove" de THE ISLAND, até os arranjos "jazzy" de GIVE ME THE SIMPLE LIFE e MORE. E ainda passa pelo clássico "Sabor a Mi", em duas versões, namora o "gipsy sound" em BESAME MUCHO e o "blues" em NATURE BOY,etc. Enfim: uma eclética "salada" temperada com bom gosto e competência, como convém a uma "dance-band" que anima os bailes texanos.
