Quase enfartei ao assistir a um concerto deles em Los Angeles. O Boss Brass produz um som inacreditável, mistura daquela sonoridade suave, sofisticada e delicada dos grupos de jazz "west coast" (me lembra muito os "Giants" do Shorty Rogers e o som do também canadense Maynard Ferguson) com ousadas "firulas" Kentonianas e delicadas sutilezas de Michel Legrand. The Boss Brass é, certamente, uma das melhores big-bands de jazz da atualidade, ao lado da de Maria Schneider e dos eternos "Airmen of Note".

ROB MCCONNELL
Robert Murray Gordon (Rob) McConnell (born February 14, 1935, London, Ontario) is a
Canadian jazz valve trombonist, composer, arranger, music educator and recording artist. Rob McConnell took up the valve trombone in high school, and began his performing career in the early 1950s, performing and studying with Don Thompson, Bobby Gimby, and later, with fellow Canadian Maynard Ferguson. In 1968 he formed The Boss Brass, a big band that would become his primary performing and recording unit through the 1970s and 1980s. In 1988, McConnell took a teaching position at the Dick Grove School of Music in California, but gave up his position and returned to Canada a year later. In 1997 McConnell was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, and in 1998 was made an Officer of the Order of Canada. Since that time he has remained active, touring internationally both as a performer and educator, running clinics around the world and performing as both a leader and a guest artist.

(*)Eu só posto álbuns que tenham qualquer conotação "latina". Não encontrei nada nesse que justificasse, mas ROB MCCONNELL é bom demais pra ficar fora do blog. Então, a desculpa que dei a mim mesmo foi a seguinte: o RMC já gravou um disco inteiramente com musica brasileira (Atrás da Porta), então tem crédito ilimitado e permanente, até porque tenho outros torpedos dos Boss Brass pra postar.
