Bringing different genres together into an album greatly effects an audience’s perception of an artist. The styles that a musician brings into their artistic statement reflect their influences. By including multiple genres, the
musician shares a greater piece of their background with the audience. They also command a higher respect by demonstrating their mastery of multiple musical approaches. At the same time, too many genres on an individual album confuse an audience and obscure the musician’s identity. The artist’s overall concept becomes questionable, and they run the risk of whitewashing the integrity of any one style. Drummer Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez brings together a wide group of genres into Italuba II creating a diverse and at times overwhelming mix of styles.

HORACIO "EL NEGRO" HERNÁNDEZ
El baterista cubano Horacio "El Negro" Hernández en su álbum, "Italuba", hace un trabajo exquisito y variado. Este albun es un tributo de Horacio al país que lo acogió en los 90, y también homenajea a Miles Davis en "90 Miles to Miles" o a Dizzy Gillespie en "A Night in Tunizia". Hay de todo en este álbum: free-jazz, latin groove y jazz con sabor a flamenco, tropical, que nos descubre el lado vanguardista de un músico que sigue dando que hablar en el mundo jazzístico internacional." En una gira por la Italia, "El negro", que nunca había tenido un grupo , conoció por casualidad a Daniel Martínez, el bajista, que le presentó después a Ivan Bribón, piano, y Amik Guerra, trompeta. Y fue una conexión instantánea, una comunicación musical instantánea y no solo musical sino personal también que decidiran llevarlo
al estudio y hacer el disco, altamente recomendable.

MINHA OPINIÃO - Horácio "El Negro" é um dos poucos (se considerarmos o universo imenso de PERCUSSIONISTAS) bateristas cubanos que toca realmente bateria (drumset) - instrumento que os percussionistas latinos colocam em segundo plano, preferindo usar congas, bongos, chekeres, e outros instrumentos do vasto arsenal disponível. Seu grupo italiano, com grande desenvoltura, trafega por variados "grooves", já que o material é farto na seara do latin jazz. E se não me dissessem que os músicos são
italianos, eu juraria que eram cubanos ou portorriquenhos. BELEZA PURA!
