BEBO VALDES
Bebo Valdés (born Ramón Emilio Valdés Amaro in Quivicán, Havana, 9 October 1918) is a Cuban pianist, bandleader, composer and arranger. He was a central figure in the golden age of Cuban music. Valdés started his career as a pianist in the night clubs of Havana during the 1940s. He played a role in the development of the mambo during the 1950s, and developed a new rhythm to compete with Perez Prado's mambo, called the batanga. Valdés was also an important figure in Cuban jazz. The film Calle 54 by Fernando Trueba brought his piano playing to a wide audience. Valdés has won five Grammy Awards: two for El arte del sabor in 2002, one for Lagrimas negras, and two for Bebo de Cuba in 2006 (in the categories Best traditional tropical album and Best Latin jazz album).
Valdés was first married to Pilar Valdés. This marriage produced five children, one of which is the pianist Chucho Valdés. In 1963 he married a Swedish woman and started a new family. As of 2008, he lives in Málaga, Spain.

CHUCHO VALDES
Chucho Valdés (born October 9, 1941), born Jesús Dionisio Valdés, is a Cuban pianist, bandleader, composer and arranger. He was born in Quivicán, Cuba. In 1972 he founded the group Irakere, one of Cuba's best-known Latin jazz bands. Together with pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Valdés is revered as one of Cuba's greatest jazz pianists. His father is the famed Cuban pianist and former director of Havana's famous "Tropicana" night club band Bebo Valdés. Chucho's son, Chuchito, is a modern Jazz pianist and, like his antecedents, a gifted musician.

Two of Cuba's greatest pianists are a father and son who love each other dearly, but had no contact for many years. Bebo and Chucho's beautiful Juntos Para Siempre ('together forever.') finds them alone together at last, on a release that celebrates Bebo's 90th birthday.
