Com 20 anos de idade o trumpetista Charles Sepúlveda, americano de origem Portorriquenha, começou sua carreira profissional na banda do grande pianista Eddie Palmieri. Foi o início da brilhante trajetória que o levou a integrar grupos de "pesos pesados" como Dizzy Gillespie, Tito Puente, McCoy Tyner, Wynton Marsalis, Dave Valentín, Hilton Ruíz, Paquito de Rivera, Michel Camilo, etc. Charlie Sepulveda iniciou carreira solo em 1991 e possui sete CD´s sob seu nome. Nos últimos anos Charlie tem se dedicado à atividade de professor, no Conservatório de Música de Porto Rico, onde reside atualmente.

ALBUM REVIEW
This is one of my all-time favorite jazz albums. Sepulveda hails from Puerto Rico, put out a few solo albums 10-15 years back, played on countless sessions for other artists, and then nothing. Where is he and what happened to him? "Algo Nuestro" is absolutely his best. Picked it up in San Juan on a business trip back in 1994. One of the top 10 CDs in my collection. Have been listening to it coming on twelve years, so that should tell you something. Highly recommended, especially for Latin Jazz enthusiasts.

MY OPINION
A "top-notch" name in the Latin jazz scene Charlie Sepulveda, the Bronx born native Puerto Rican trumpeter, is hailed as one of the best trumpeters of our time. Nowadays, Charlie lives in Puerto Rico and devotes most part of his time teaching at the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico and volunteering at his local church in Luquillo, his hometown. He has played and recorded among masters like: Tito Puente, Dizzy Gillespie, Giovanni Hidalgo, McCoy Tyner, Wynton Marsalis, Eddie Palmieri, Dave Valentín, Hilton Ruíz, Paquito de Rivera, Michel Camilo, Sheila E., Marc Anthony and many others. This CD, "Algo Nuestro" (Our Thing) is an excellent blending of Latin lyricism, strong post-bop harmonies and solos plus solid Puerto Rican and Antillano rhythms.

MINHA OPINIÃO: Charlie Sepúlveda não é muito conhecido do grande público, embora seja um nome de respeito na cena do latin jazz. Seu "currículum vitae" não deixa margem a qualquer dúvida: tocar com "monstros sagrados" como Eddie Palmieri, Tito Puente, Dizzy Gillespie, etc. equivalem a um atestado de proficiência. Neste álbum me agradam muito o arranjo de "Puerto Rico", obra-prima de Eddie Palmieri, e a delicada performance de Charlie no belíssimo bolero "La mentira", impreganada de lirismo, em dueto com o pianista Edward Simon. Os integrantes do grupo de CP são, como ele, grandes nomes do cenário do "Latin Jazz". Grande álbum!
