Bem antes de se tornar famoso como cantor e compositor, Sacha Distel era um competente guitarrista de Jazz, incentivado por Henri Salvador, que nele vislumbrou um talentoso músico. Já famoso como cantor, Sacha Distel costumava reunir um grupo de músicos amigos para 'jam-sessions' no 'Le chat qui peche', no Quartier Latin, um dos mais famosos 'points' de jazz de Paris, na época. Depois o ponto-de-encontro passou a ser o 'Le Bilboquet", na Rua Saint Benoit, em Saint Germain de Près. Neste último, estive uma vez, em 1999 (em companhia do pianista e contrabaixista CESARIUS ALVIM, carioca, radicado em Paris desde 1974, amigo do Sacha). Acabei dando uma 'canja', tocando na guitarra do Sacha que, muito gentil, me deixou usar sua Gibson Les Paul Goldtop semi-acústica, uma preciosidade . Apaixonado pela música do Brasil, Sacha esteve no Rio na época áurea da bossa-nova: espertamente foi aprender 'in loco' os truques, o 'pulo-do-gato'. Infelizmente Sacha faleceu em 2004.

Sacha Distel (Sacha Alexandre; January 29, 1933 – July 22, 2004), was a French singer, and composer, born in Paris. At age 16, Distel became a professional jazz guitarist. Over his career he worked alongside Dizzy Gillespie and Tony Bennett. Sacha Distel had a much publicised relationship with actress Brigitte Bardot. In the 1960s, he composed 'La Belle Vie', a tune that made its way across the Atlantic as 'The Good Life', and most famously performed by Tony Bennett. French lyrics were added in the 1970s and it became Distel's signature tune, when he decided to became a singer. During the 1960s, he had his own variety show on French television.During the 1970s, he became popular outside France, and once hosted the Miss World contest in London. remained reasonably popular in France in the 1980s and 1990s,including a new show named after his song 'La Belle Vie'. Sacha Distel died on July 22, 2004, aged 71, after a long illness in Rayol-Canadel, south-east France.

MINHA OPINIÃO - acho que Sacha Distel tocava guitarra melhor que cantava - fato que se pode constatar neste álbum duplo, onde SD toca estritamente jazz, com muita competência. Estas gravações, reeditadas em CD, são do final dos anos 50 e princípio dos anos 60.
