Carlos Franzetti já é nosso velho conhecido. Eddie Gomez é famoso pela sua participação no trio de Bill Evans. Depois da morte de Scott LaFaro, levou algum tempo para que Bill encontrasse um contrabaixista que pudesse dar continuidade ao seu trabalho com LaFaro. Contrabaixistas notáveis passaram pelo trio, mas não "encaixaram"; finalmente, chegou Eddie Gomez que, além de tocar no mesmo estilo de LaFaro, acrescentou outros ingredientes - por exemplo: a poderosa sonoridade, que LaFaro não tinha. Depois que deixou o trio de Bill Evans, Eddie Gomez gravou com todo mundo, mas nunca mais brilhou tanto quanto naqueles dias.

EDDIE GOMEZ
Edgar "Eddie" Gómez (born October 4, 1944) is a Puerto Rican jazz double bassist born in Santurce, Puerto Rico, perhaps most notable for his work done with the Bill Evans trio from 1966 to 1977. Gómez emigrated with his family at a young age to the United States of America and grew up in New York. He started on double bass in the New York City school system at the age of eleven and at age thirteen went to the New York City High School of Music and Art. He played in the Newport Festival Youth Band (led by Marshall Brown) from 1959 to 1961, and graduated from Juilliard in 1963. His impressive résumé includes performances with jazz giants such as Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Gerry Mulligan, Benny Goodman, Buck Clayton, Bill Bruford, Marian McPartland, Paul Bley, Wayne Shorter, Steps Ahead, Steve Gadd, Jeremy Steig, Herbie Hancock, Tony Williams, Al Foster, Chick Corea, Eugenio Toussaint and Carli Muñoz. Time lauded: "Eddie Gómez has the world on his strings". He spent a total of eleven years with the Bill Evans Trio, which included performances throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia, as well as dozens of recordings. Two of the Trio's recordings won Grammy awards. In addition, he was a member of the Manhattan Jazz Quintet. His career mainly consists of working as an accompanist, a position suited for his quick reflexes and flexibility. In addition to working as a studio musician for many famous jazz musicians, he has recorded as a leader for Columbia Records, Projazz and Stretch. Most of his recent recordings as a leader are co-led by jazz pianist Mark Kramer.Gómez was also a member of the fusion band Steps Ahead.

ALBUM REVIEW
Carlos Franzetti is a multiple Grammy Award winner and Argentinean pianist, composer and arranger who has been living in the US for many years. He recorded this duet album with the famous Eddie Gomez - who is the memorable bass player from the Bill Evans trio - in May 2007 in New York. The result is an exquisite and intimate album, with a miscellaneous repertoire. There are compositions by Wayne Shorter, Dameron, Sergio Mihanovich and by Franzetti and Gómez themselves.

MINHA OPINIÃO
Por favor, não faça como eu - ou seja: não ouça este álbum pensando que vai encontrar aqui aquela mesma interação de Eddie Gomez com Bill Evans, porque ela não existe: aquelas gravações de Gomez com Evans foram um momento mágico, impossível de ser revivido com outro pianista. Isto posto, resta acrescentar que é um belo álbum, de um grande músico de jazz - Eddie Gomez, ao lado de Carlos Franzetti, um grande pianista com alma de arranjador. Sim, porque o arranjador que existe em Franzetti supera o músico, o pianista. Tal como seu compatriota Lalo Schiffrin e o alemão Andre Previn,  Franzetti também não pode ser mais considerado como um pianista de jazz, por uma simples razão: eles tocam com a cabeça do arranjador, do maestro e, por isso, seus solos são "cerebrais" demais, "arranjados" demais. Falta aquela "centelha", que é a alma do músico de jazz, que Franzetti, Schiffrin e Previn, um dia foram, mas não são mais.

(*)Em alguns momentos o "espírito" de Bill Evans parece baixar, pra abençoar e iluminar o álbum. O  melhor exemplo está na faixa "If you could see me now": é Bill Evans puro...
