ALBUM REVIEW
A unique little album from Urbie Green – and a groovy little one too! The album is a rare 10" Christmas set from Green – played by a group of "all stars" that includes Al Cohn on tenor, Joe Wilder on trumpet, Mundell Lowe on guitar, and Milt Hinton on bass. Urbie plays trombone, natch, and the group does a great job of swinging their way through holiday favorites – all in a lively approach that's more jazz than straight carols – in a way that's right up there with the best of the Jingle Bell Jazz crowd, but a least a decade before! Titles include "The Christmas Song", "White Christmas", "Winter Wonderland", "Jingle Bells", "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus", and "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town".
