TOM JOBIM disse que no século XX só havia boa música no Brasil, em Cuba e nos Estados Unidos e que 'o resto era valsa...' ('Palpite infeliz', já que Tom compôs grandes valsas e era inegável a influência de Debussy e Ravel em sua divina música). Mas ao jogar a Europa para escanteio, o que Tom queria dizer, na verdade, era que o Velho Mundo fazia jus ao epíteto, pois a grande música produzida aqui datava do século XIX. Ao que parece grande parte dos músicos Europeus parece concordar com o nosso 'maestro soberano' pois aderiram de corpo e alma à salsa e à bossa-nova, conforme já constatamos na postagem do NUEVA MANTECA e agora, nesta excelente CONEXION LATINA, um combo multinacional, formado por músicos alemães, dinamarqueses, americanos, e latinos. (Não tem nenhum brasileiro, mas em compensação a belíssima composição
de Ivan Lins & Gilson Peranzzetta, SETEMBRO, é um dos pontos altos do CD).

CONEXION LATINA
Conexion Latina is a salsa music and Afro-Cuban jazz orchestra based in Germany, which was founded in 1980 by trombonist Rudi Fuesers. From the beginning, the orchestra teams together musicians from Germany, Denmark, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Colombia, Peru, Venezuela, United States. creating an original mixture that gave the band its unique sound and made it Europe's leading salsa orchestra. Among the musicians that have played for Conexion Latina are Benny Bailey, Dusko Goykovich, Larry Harlow, Nicky Marrero, Bobby Shew and Bobby Stern, along with pianist Hector Martignon, bongo player Ricky Jameson, vocalist Wito Rodriguez, tenor sax
player Roman Schwaller, bassist Roland Richardson, percussionist Freddie Santiago, conga player Guillermo Torres, vocalist Anthony Martinez, bassist Leslie Lopez, trombonist Edilberto Lievano, pianist José Avila, conga player Claus Tofft, and many others. The quality of Conexion Latina's music is also due to first-class arrangements made by Oscar Hernández, Alberto Naranjo and Marty Sheller, to name just a few.

ALBUM COMMENTS
This particular CD is quite strong. The live set casts Conexion Latina as a mighty 15-piece orchestra with seven horns and four percussionists plus four vocalists. Four of the nine selections involve singing (with Anthony Martinez and Javier Plaza taking turns as lead vocalist) while the instrumentals have solos from veteran jazz trumpeter Benny Bailey (in top form) and tenor saxophonist Bobby Stern. The ensembles are stirring and the multinational group is often quite exciting.
