Patricia Barber, Kelly Smith, Janis Siegel, Karrin Allison, Diane Schuur, Diana Krall e Jane Monheit são alguns nomes, aos quais podemos acrescentar a excelente SUE MATTHEWS. Sue tem classe e elegância; é econômica, contida, sem arroubos ou exageros desnecessários, tal como demonstra neste "Love Dances", que foi o seu primeiro álbum.

SUE MATTHEWS
Vocalist Sue Matthews first appeared in 1991, releasing the traditional jazz album "Love Dances" that year. She sings with an innate appreciation of intimacy and savoir-faire, mixing some blues inflection and torch where it makes sense. Matthews' delivery is intimate, flawless, and smooth. Besides, she also has a way about her that gives one a warm, cuddly feeling after listening to her. Sue Matthews is a jazz vocalist with class, and a great sweet style: her articulation and phrasing are perfect and clear and she sings with a refreshing honestly that makes the lyrics come alive with emotion.

ALBUM RELEASE
Love Dances is a baker's dozen of some of the most seductive and stylish songs you'll ever hear. Matthews is backed by a superb rhythm section headed by Stefan Scaggiari whose arrangements are wisely sparse, allowing Sue to showcase her extraordinary style. A gifted pianist, Scaggiari's sensitivity follows and anticipates Sue's every interpretive nuance. String bassist Keter Betts (Ella Fitzgerald) sets the mood, enhancing Sue's subtlety throughout the album. Guitarist Steve Abshire and drummer Mike Smith round out this first rate quartet, creating the gentle acoustic sound that characterizes Love Dances.

MINHA OPINIÃO: "Love Dance", grande composição de Ivan Lins tem uma trajetória
curiosa: no Brasil, com letra em português, até onde sei, só foi gravada pelo próprio Ivan e pela cantora Simone (eu acho, não tenho certeza). Mas em inglês foi gravada por TODO MUNDO: é mais fácil saber quem NÃO GRAVOU. E esta versão de Sue Matthews, num delicado clima de "bossa nova", é mais uma excelente releitura, a ser acrescentada à longa lista. O repertório do álbum é um colar de pérolas, reunindo Gershwin, Cole Porter, Rodgers & Hart, Arlen & Mercer, etc. "Classy and elegant" resumem a minha opinião sobre este belo álbum de Sue Matthews.
